I'm are about a week or two out from our Blackberry flow here in SW WA. Thanks much Bob I always enjoy your videos, Blessed Days, buddy...
Hi Bob... if you were planting trees near a bee yard would plant Tulip Poplar or Little Leaf Linden trees ? Thank you
Hi Bob, I've ask all over you tube. Everyone says emergency queens are the worst. Why then use a double screen board? To me this method causes an emergency queen response.
Ok, the ending had me laughing a lot harder than it probably should have!
That gal is the real deal when it comes to beekeeping!!
Bob have you ever tried honey that has no taste at all? I live in VA and I took a honey super off a hive yesterday and the honey has no taste what so ever. I am wondering if it is bad. It is strictly a honey super so I have never put chemicals in it.
I've had some very sweet but bland honey before but I haven't had any that had no flavor at all. I don't think it has gone bad on you. I once heard of someone playing a joke on a neighbor beekeeper by open feeding without his knowledge and the result was much like what you describe.
I purchased some from you, Bob and I just I don’t have a taste for it. I guess I’m like your wife probably my first choice is Basswood and then Tulip Poplar for sure
They make a really good jacket or a blanket for the bed
Thank you Bob for sharing your experiences especially now. Your knowledge is valuable to all of us.
As always, good info and a good break on Sunday with your videos. Sorry about the bear. We don't have bears thank goodness.
Your sign at the end made me laugh! Thanks for sharing
The orange pollen is cheetos! Bob 😂
Just reminds me I got to update my fence in my yard. FYI I used a polly cord. Don’t it snaps super easy.
I've got that orange pollen coming in, too. Haven't a clue as to what it is.
Let me know if you figure it out.
Thanks Bob for pointing out the non-desirable flavor of the honey made from Wild Cherry. I was about to begin marking small trees that I could transplant to my place this next winter. I'll mark the Wild Cherry off my list. Please include more information of this sort. I am a second year beekeeper needing all the positive and negative information I can get. Thanks for your information packed videos.
Thanks for the videos, Bob. The content is always great and I'm glad to see that the bear didn't destroy the entire yard. 🐝🐝
Hi Bob. I few weeks ago I told you how my colonies just depopulated. I let them alone incase queens were being superseded because of what happened. I went in the hives today and spent a few hours looking through them to see what was going on. All the colonies had the original queens (I mark them). The numbers were small in all colonies and yet were trying to re-populate with a lot of brood. I spoke to the farmer about it and we discussed what was used and with the wet weather he couldn't use his usual rotation of products on the crops. I later went to my second apiary about two miles away and the same thing happened there. The queens are there and the colonies were depopulated. Strange. When I noticed the lower number of bees a few weeks ago I looked for piles of bees in front of the hives. There wasn't one bee on the landing board or in the grass in front of the hives. I'm thinking that maybe the county or state did some kind of a spray program and the bees got caught in the middle of it all. Any thoughts on your part? Ideas of might have happened? Great video by the way.
Thanks. What you describe seems unusual. No good ideas here.
Bob I enjoy all your videos sorry about the bear glad the damage was not real bad. Does seth still work for you, Do you have problems with ticks and if u do what do u use,.Thaks off does not cut it.
Hi Frances. Seth hasn't worked for me in a couple of months but does expect to work part time in the future. We just check ourselves carefully for ticks.
I’m sorry to see that bob
That sucks bears got into a hive yard I know you will get it back to full capacity thanks for sharing
So sorry❤
My Grandfather had a bear that kept visiting his bees , just behind his house , back in the 1960’s , and it required a 240 volt house current and barbed wire to eventually get him out of the honeybee yard .
Thanks
Thanks for the video! Dang, I was hoping someone would comment on the orange pollen. I have a ton of it coming in too & can’t identify it. I’m in the eastern panhandle of WV.
The privet in my area has different leaves. Small and round like a penny. It makes great tasting honey.
That's a retirement plan?😂
Love the content, Thank you.
Caucasian bee hybrid Caniola bee, can't it reproduce without autumn? It's very hot here, and the bee gene pool on my side is in the north. The information they gave is that Caucasian bees have no advantage in autumn and the colony is small
why you don't use mini box make queen and requeen? not just one queen can get it
We can't let a queen lay long enough in a mini box to make a good judgement on her quality.
@@bobbinnie9872 good queen is no have you say, the pure queen have this problem, The offspring produced are stable, but the color of the queen bee is unstable. The black queen has a few yellow worker bees to produce the queen bee. This queen bee is very stable buy the queen back make cell will local drone mate , take this one good queen make cell, the queen it's ok
@@bobbinnie9872 For a pure-bred queen bee like this, the way they preserve the pure-bred queen bee makes the queen bee lose its vitality, so individual pure-bred queens do not perform well.
As I have said we don't have a problem with bears, yet, our problem is with skunks. I do believe I would rather have the skunks rather than bears. St least the skunks don't destroy our boxes. They just make the bees mad.
single box so easy requeen, over 90%
I lost my first hive to a bear, what a learning curve, the next year, with electric fence, I lost one due to the dry weather we get, I then added a motion sensor light, the end of the bear. We have to be careful here with an electric fence ,they can start a fire here in S. Oregon.
Great video, very informative as always 👍🇺🇸
Do bees work elderberry?
I don't see much activity here but I've heard others say they do in their area.
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge! 👍
We always enjoy your Sunday videos, they are very relevant to our small operation in Blairsville. We use your shop for most of our beekeeping needs, thank you. G's Bees Apiary
I'm in NE TN and I don't remember seeing so much blooming privet as is happening right now here! The honey locust too...
I’m around Clarksville Montgomery county. All of our privet and locust got washed out from the rain we’ve had the last 3 weeks. Persimmon and tree of heaven are blooming now with sumac not far behind. Hopefully we can get back on track.
I miss seeing Seth. Did Seth move to full time beekeeper on his own? Great video
I see and talk to Seth from time to time and he seems to be doing OK with his bees but he hasn't worked with me for a number of months.
@@bobbinnie9872 Thanx for the update.
Pleasure watching that gal work!!! Wife material fa sure!
I had a bear incident once when I lost my ground for the fence. He was most polite only taking out one hive. He systematically dismantled it box by box and ate the contents. I had a lot of flimsy foundationless frames and he carefully ate the comb without destroying them. I think I lost only 2 frames in the entire incident. The hive It was probably 100 lbs and the bear must have waddled off very full.
Thank you for your video is very helpfuly
Hy. I'm a hobby beekeeper in Romania. Is there anyone ho successful overwinter banked mated queens? Is 2-3 european size frame enough for overwinter a queen?
Yes on the queen banking but it has problems being successful for most. We usually have three frame nucs with a queen that we overwinter each year using a double screen board.
Celina has become very savvy in the bee yard
I would agree with that.
Good morning Bob! I hope all the rain we've received juices up the sourwood flow, its pretty much killed the tuplip poplar here around Charlotte NC, so we are headed to nextar dearth and robbing. Not my favorite time of the year.
I'm with you on the dearth period. Robbing is one of my least favorite things about beekeeping.
O nice. I wrote to someone that I make single brood frame nucks with queen cell on the last flow before summer and let them grow like that.. can't remember was it Kamon or Nathan or... then I thought he might think l'm stupid or something. Now I feel much better.. when Bob Binnie has it on video it can't be wrong. It's good to see it on UA-cam
Fortunately we don't have bears in our area. We are finally getting a bit of a nectar flow. Now to continue and praying for rain. Thank You for another fun and informative video!
Good morning, Bob Would you let me know how many joule you have on your electric bear fence? Great operation, and wish you good season.
3.1 joules. It's a Magnum 12 by Parmak.
I love that quotation at the end Bob. I suspect that it's true for just about all Beekeepers. 😢
Based on my calculations, I'm gonna have to work the rest of my life too lol. The times and the cost of living is just crazy. I really need to pull honey off my hives so I can make room, but I been dealing with diverticulitis and haven't been able to. Don't see mine working the honeysuckle as much either as long as there is other sources available, I'm sure it's more work cause their tongues aren't long enough. Thanks for the videos, I look forward to them when I get up Sunday mornings.
Bob, can you make a video on how you set up your bear fence from start to finish.
I've been thinking of that. Our current video on the subject isn't very good. Possibly this winter. Thanks.
